STONEWARE AND METAL
As an artist, my work has always been about pushing the boundaries of what sculpture can be. The introduction of metal into my creations marks a new chapter that opens up new possibilities.
Metal is allowing me to break free from the constraints of my previous material, stoneware, and take my work to new heights, both literally and creatively.
One of the most exciting aspects of combining metal with ceramics is the way it transforms my sculptures. For years, my work was limited by the size of the kiln and the clay itself, but metal has completely changed that. It’s given me the freedom to create larger, more intricate pieces that grow not just in height but also in complexity. This new fusion has allowed me to explore the interplay of two very rough materials—where the strength of metal contrasts with the dense, solid nature of stoneware.
One of the most rewarding parts of this new direction is how metal allows me to introduce function into my sculptures. The work **Echinus** is the first to truly embody this idea. It's a "functional sculpture" that challenges the traditional view of sculpture as purely decorative. The patinated steel surfaces and niches in Echinus aren’t just for visual impact—they serve a practical purpose. This work is no longer just an object to look at; it has the potential to integrate with everyday life, breaking the barrier between art and functionality.
For me, **Echinus** represents a new way of thinking. It’s not only a piece to be admired but something that invites interaction and adaptability. It’s a step towards **collectible design**, where art and design seamlessly blend, creating works that are both beautiful and useful. This fusion is not only about combining materials but also about creating pieces that serve a purpose beyond their aesthetic value.
The integration of metal into my sculptures has opened up a world of new possibilities. I look forward to seeing where it will take me in my future works. This new fusion not only broadens my creative approach but also moves my art closer to the sphere of collectible design, marking a natural evolution in my work.
